We’d like to say Phil was the skinny kid in school who was bullied being the reason he turned to bodybuilding, as it makes for great story.
The truth is actually more dramatic
He was an overweight sporty teen, who played rugby, first realising he may have a health issue, when he found himself crying sugar.
The doctors diagnosed him with severe Type 1 diabetes, and told him alongside daily injections of insulin, he could do with losing a bit of weight, and to make better food choices.
A career at any level of sport, was unlikely, he was told.
A diagnosis, he wasn’t happy with. At that moment, everything changed. He realised what he had to do.
Fast forward a few years, from overweight teen, to globally recognised competitive body builder and Sports Nutritionist.
Going to university to study sports nutrition, he graduated as a BSc, CSSN establishing himself as one of UK’s leading fitness educators and coaches.
Phil educates 1000's of personal trainers each year through his seminars, workshops and attendance at some of the world's largest health and fitness exhibitions
He never did lose weight. In fact he put it on! In doing so proving that weight when its muscle is a benefit, and at 6foot and 20stone of pure Irish and lean beef, Phil is a formidable presence, and an exceptional presenter talking on all areas, of health, nutrition, diabetes with the overarching message that there is always a way.
